Nisir Societal Development and Environmental
Protection Association (hereafter addressed as Nisir) was established in 2002 E.c after being licensed and
registered based on the law of the nation. The association was not established
in order to generate profit; rather it was established based on a vision to
work in areas of societal mental development, by taking into account the public
participation.
The name Nisir is the Amharic version of eagle. The
founders pick this name for their association because of the fact that eagles'
eyes are extremely powerful, having up to 3.6 times human acuity which enables
them to spot potential prey from a very long distance.
Likewise Nisir picks an individual/organization
from every corner of the country among different fields of profession who
accomplished exemplary achievements and give them appreciation and recognition
award. [Among the areas Nisir has so far been working includes tourism,
environmental protection, science and technology, charity activities,
agriculture, community service, and so on.] Besides, Nisir symbolizes eagles’
powerful eyes as a sign of its being a visionary association that envisages
creation of visionary generation in Ethiopia.
As witnessed from the current situation, our
culture of encouraging and appreciation of those individuals/organizations that
have brought about a great change to their community even to the rest of the
world has been diminished due to many factors. Hence, Nisir was established to
with a motive of creating awareness within the community by changing their
attitude and make them able to appreciate and encourage those individuals who
have accomplished and are still accomplishing a great job to the public
interest. Furthermore, by doing so, beyond appreciation and recognition of
those individuals/organizations Nisir believed that change in the attitude
towards having a vision by the new generation could be achieved. In general,
Nisir is an association of visionaries doing various activities that shows,
encourages and motivates the efforts of individuals/organizations in the
country. By doing so it tries to expand the visions of visionaries. Right after
its establishment it sought to show this generation the awakening and
motivational works of visionaries, thereby, showing the great experiences found
behind their success in order to positively influence the younger generation on
having a habit of vision.
Nisir has a firm stand and a strong belief that not
only those individuals/organizations that have accomplished a wonderful deed
deserve appreciation and recognition but also the environment which encompasses
all creatures for free with love and peace shall be appreciated. This is of
course in addition to its protection and preservation from harmful practices
which have an adverse effect on its welfare and the public at large. Nisir is
therefore committed to educate the community to live in harmony with their
environment.
